The Joy of BDSM
I don't get a whole lot of visitors to this blog who aren't at least interested in spanking or BDSM. Sure, there's the occasional tourist; people who've followed a link from a site like Boing Boing or CollegeHumor and are surprised, amused or completely freaked out by the idea of paddles made from tire tread. That's fine as long as they behave respectfully, and mostly they do. Here and there, on other blogs that wrote about the paddles I've found comments that were less tolerant or downright righteously idignant. That usually happens on blogs that typically don't cover adult oriented material, and I guess I can see where someone might react badly if they weren't expecting to see such a thing while having their morning coffee or whatever. I mean, hey, I don't really wanna see anything from, say, Fox News before I've had a few smokes and a pot of coffee (aka breakfast).
We all have different tastes and kinks, which is sometimes all that keeps a curious guy like me from getting utterly bored with the world. There are plenty of things that don't necessarily get me hot, but I can usually understand how they might do it for someone. And if not, well, as long as it's all consensual, I'm not about to give them a hard time about it. When we see something we don't understand, or something that doesn't get us off personally (whether in real life or fantasy) it can be hard to remember that the reason people do it is because it works for them. They like it. They get off on it. And that deserves respect whether we get it or not.
I've been meaning to write a post about this for a while… But now I don't have to, because Bacchus wrote an excellent post this week that explains it far better than I can, with appropriate visual aids. I've excerpted the first little bit below, but if you haven't read it already go check it out. It's the smartest thing I've seen on how to be okay with what makes you uncomfortable personally.
This is a post about two smiles:
Those are the two smiles of the lovely Sarah Blake, who does bondage modeling for Hogtied.com. I want you to look at those smiles and study the differences between them. No matter if you're kinky or vanilla (but especially if you're vanilla) I want you to remember those smiles the next time you hear a preacher or a politician ranting and raving against the evils of sadomasochism, sexual depravity, and sadistic abuse. He's talking about Sarah and her delicious, joyful smile.
