Winner, "Weirdest Eco-Habit" Contest
For what it's worth, BadAss Paddles were selected as the weirdest "eco-habit" by the readers over at Treehugger. It was a very close race. I only took the title by three votes. It's amazing how obsessive a person can get about these things, but then, I've always been a bit of a stats and data junkie. Give me moving numbers to watch and I just keep hitting the refresh button. It's a sickness, I admit it.
Thanks to those of you who took the time to go over and vote for me.
Once the results were in, Sean sent me some interview questions. That was great… I've been meaning to write a few posts about the design process, why I like to work with recycled material, etc. The interview gave me a chance (well, a deadline) to get some of those thoughts down on pixels finally. I'll be canibalizing bits of it for posts here, but feel free to check out the full interview here.
For the record, I don't really think the paddles are all that weird, although they're nicely kinky. Not quite the same thing. But I've always wanted to get some of my work featured on Treehugger, so, hey, it was pretty cool.

Congrats on the win, I know I sent the link on to quite a few people in hopes that the votes would push you over the top. I like the acknowledgement that comes from winning something like this. So often those of us in the BDSM lifestyle are portrayed as greedy almost overly debauched individuals.
Yet we are jut like our neighbors with the same concerns needs and wants. One of those being the ecological effects we are having on this planet. So kudos to you for using recycled Materials and for winning.
I am dying to get mine but as soon as I think I am free and clear and able to take you up on your offer another damn xmas pressie comes along to purchase. Look for me after the first of the year, I promise.

Mim, Thanks for the vote and passing the link on!
You make a really good point about how the BDSM community is often portrayed, etc. I think I may devote a post to this in the near future, because that *was* in fact part of what excited me the most about the contest: the opportunity to undo some stereotypes and let people think a bit about why they might consider eco-friendly and BDSM to be somehow not in alignment.
Good design should point out these kinds of fallacies, provide food for thought, and bring communities together. 'course, providing a good ass-whackin' ain't all bad in this context either!
