So I was pretty excited when I got an email from the Senior Buyer at Babeland that said "I am interested in finding out if you wholesale your products […] we think your paddles look HOT!!!"

Wow, that was quick… The Burning Rubber site had been live for less than a week. I emailed back immediately to say that, yes, I would definitely be interested in selling the paddles through Babeland. We had a great conversation over the phone yesterday, and it looks like we'll be trying each other out. I think what impressed me most was the feeling that we're both invested in the same ideas: helping people to be adventurous and open without losing sight of the lighter touch that comes from caring and a sense of humor.

Another cool thing was her willingness to give me a bit of an inside view to how the adult toy business works… This is a new venture for me and it was really sweet of her to take the time to help bring me up to speed. The difference between selling art through galleries and selling toys through retailers isn't huge, but then, it ain't exactly the same either. For instance, most art isn't useful for anything but looking at… but sex toys? Now, that's functional design you can use!

My original intention had been to offer the paddles only on Burning Rubber to kind of maximize the mystique and exclusivity of what I feel is a very unique and special product. I'm kind of glad to let that go, actually… I've never been that kind of person in real life. People like to feel special, of course, and one way to help them feel special is to let them feel like insiders, members of an exclusive club. But another way to make people feel special is to just treat them all like important individuals who matter. I'm a lot more comfortable with that. I think Babeland will be a great partner in that regard.
